SONKO CAUSES DRAMA IN PRISON.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko caused drama on his first nights behind cells in Gigiri Police Station and in Kamiti respectively. The Gigiri police station was on Tuesday,2 February surrounded by officers from the elite Anti Terrorism Police Unit to keep away. However, police officers revealed that the former governor was ushered into the police cells at 4:15 PM after undergoing all the required procedures. Sonko was then stripped of his VIP status and forced to remove one of his shoe and his belt. Inside the cells, the former county chief met another five suspects who had been brought in for different offences.

It is at around 9:30 pm, that Sonko transformed the cells into a prayer centre as the former governor and his new friends broke into worship songs and intercession prayers. The group was so loud that officers manning the report office had to ask them to lower their voices.

“Initially he was in a pensive mood but after a while, he cheered up and was busy chatting with other men in the cells,” said an officer at the station.

According to sources , only the personal doctor and lawyer were allowed to visit the former governor. After leaving Gigiri Police Station, the former Nairobi Governor was arraigned at the Kiambu Law Courts on Wednesday and thereafter transferred briefly to the Kamiti Maximum Prison. He was later charged at the Kahawa West Law Courts where he faced terrorism charges before being transferred back to Gigiri Police Station. According to Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, Sonko had been made to believe he could get away with his dramatic life as a leader.

“Over a period of time and I think he was misled to think that he can get away with anything because he’s been behaving the same way. He’s been doing the same things. He has been talking the same way for a period of time and he’s been rewarded not only by the state but also been rewarded by the voters,” he stated.

“We have let him continue digging the hole for himself and I think his friends would have been able to tell him that you’re not following the law and that you’re going to get in trouble. Just to go with what my colleagues have said, it is important that to remember that he is innocent until proven guilty and that it should not be mistreated,” Mutua added

Sonko has been listed as one of the politicians who have incited the masses since January this year . This is according to a report by National Cohesion and Integration commission . Sonko’s troubles started after he alleged to have planned and destroyed properties in Nairobi alongside PS Kibicho.
