Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has dismissed claims that his Party of Progressive Kenyans (PPK) could divide opposition votes ahead of the 2027 General Election insisting that his political ambitions are guided by the need to offer Kenyans an alternative.
Nyoro has faced questions over the role of his party in the emerging opposition political arrangements with concerns being raised that having multiple parties within the opposition could weaken efforts to challenge President William Ruto in the next election.
However, the Kiharu MP has rejected the argument, maintaining that the existence of PPK should not automatically be interpreted as an attempt to split opposition support.
The legislator has also indicated that he is ready to contest for the presidency should the opposition coalition settle on him as its preferred candidate.
His declaration introduces another dimension to the ongoing discussions about the opposition's 2027 presidential ticket with several political figures expected to position themselves as potential candidates.
Nyoro's remarks come at a time when opposition leaders are navigating questions surrounding coalition building, party loyalty, leadership positions and the process of identifying a flagbearer capable of representing their collective interests.
His willingness to be considered for the top seat could also intensify conversations about the criteria that opposition parties will use when selecting their presidential candidate.
