The interruption is expected to affect households, businesses and institutions across six major areas of Nairobi City County, with the water utility warning customers to make adequate preparations before the exercise begins.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, November 4, Nairobi City Water disclosed that the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) would shut down the Karimenu Transmission Pipeline to facilitate critical tie-in works.

Among the areas expected to experience the interruption are Kasarani, Mwiki, Clay City, Ruai and Njiru, including their surrounding neighbourhoods. Residents in Roysambu, Zimmerman, Kahawa Barracks and Kenyatta University are also expected to be affected.

The disruption will further extend to the entire Kayole area, including Komarock, Soweto and Matopeni, as well as neighbouring locations connected to the affected supply network.

The planned shutdown could inconvenience households that depend on regular piped water for cooking, cleaning and other daily activities. Businesses, learning institutions and other establishments operating within the affected neighbourhoods may also need to make alternative arrangements during the maintenance period.

While explaining the reason for the interruption, Nairobi City Water said the exercise was necessary to facilitate critical connections on the transmission pipeline, indicating that the works are part of efforts to improve the water supply infrastructure.

The company apologised to customers for the inconvenience and urged residents to use the available water sparingly as preparations for the shutdown get underway.

Customers seeking clarification or assistance have been advised to contact Nairobi City Water through its toll-free number, 0800 724 366.

Residents in the affected neighbourhoods are therefore encouraged to store sufficient water before the scheduled shutdown begins to minimise disruptions to their daily activities.
