In a post shared on X on Wednesday, Makori described the changes taking place in the party as a steady revival, suggesting that ODM could be finding a new direction under Oburu’s leadership.

Makori said Oburu was “slowly but sharply reviving ODM” after what he called a “great depression”.

He blamed the party’s earlier troubles on people who, in his view, pretended to be close friends of Raila but did not genuinely support him.

However, he did not name the individuals he was referring to or provide details to support the accusation.

According to Makori, the revival is not the work of Oburu alone. He credited several party figures, including Simba Arati, Junet Mohamed Sheikh and Oketcho Salah.

He said they had been working behind the scenes to restore the spirit associated with Raila and strengthen the party.

The post points to the important role of party organisers and leaders as ODM adjusts to life after Raila.

Oburu, Raila’s elder brother, has become a central figure in the party’s leadership as members watch how it will maintain unity and protect its political influence.

Makori’s remarks suggest that he believes the team is making progress.

His comments are likely to attract attention among ODM supporters because the party remains an important force in Kenyan politics.

However, Makori’s assessment reflects his personal view, and the post does not offer independent evidence of how much the party has recovered.

The coming months will show whether the efforts he praised can translate into stronger grassroots support, unity, a clear political strategy and remain relevant ahead of the next general election.
