Uhuru Shocking Move in Nyeri Leaves Gachagua in Regrets

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been extending olive branches to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to mend the divisions within the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking at the burial of former police boss King’ori Mwangi in Nyeri, Gachagua emphasized the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving the rift that emerged from the contentious 2022 General Election.

Despite Uhuru’s earlier departure from the funeral, Gachagua expressed his eagerness to meet his former boss, emphasizing their past disagreements but affirming that those differences were now behind them.

He acknowledged Uhuru’s other commitments and praised his contributions to society during his tenure as Kenya’s fourth president.

Gachagua urged his allies to refrain from disrespecting Uhuru, emphasizing the need to accord him the respect he deserves as a former president.

He expressed gratitude for Uhuru’s post-retirement efforts and reiterated his affection and prayers for him.

The disagreement between Gachagua and Uhuru stems from the latter’s support for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during the 2022 General Election.

Gachagua accused Uhuru of targeting him with alleged corruption charges through state security agencies before the elections. He further criticized Uhuru for financial mismanagement, excessive borrowing, and tax increases during his presidency.

However, at the funeral, Uhuru chose to focus on honoring Mwangi’s service as a dedicated police officer rather than engaging in political discussions.

Despite the ongoing differences between Gachagua and Uhuru, efforts to bridge the gap and foster reconciliation within the Mt Kenya region continue.
