Chebukati to be Appointed as Chief Justice?

Raila Amollo Odinga, a prominent Kenyan politician, currently serves as the leader of the opposition in Kenya, heads the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance, and leads the Orange Democratic Movement party.

In a significant development, he addressed the recent meeting between Chief Justice Martha Koome and President William Samoei Ruto.

According to Raila, both President Ruto and CJ Martha Koome reached an agreement to allocate additional funding to the judiciary.

However, he asserted that this agreement came with certain conditions. The CJ was expected to advertise vacancies for five additional High Court judges and eleven Court of Appeal judges.

Raila went on to accuse President Ruto of actively promoting the names of Wafula Chebukati and former IEBC chairperson Isaac Hassan for appointment as Court of Appeal judges.

He further claimed that President Ruto’s intentions go beyond this, alleging a plot to elevate Chebukati to the position of Chief Justice before the 2027 general election.

The source reported Raila’s strong accusations with the headline, “Raila accuses Ruto of plotting to install Chebukati as Chief Justice,” as shared on their official verified Facebook page, Kenyans.co.ke.

This revelation underscores the political intricacies surrounding key judicial appointments and raises questions about the potential influence of political figures on the judiciary.

As Raila brings these allegations to light, it adds a layer of complexity to the ongoing dynamics within Kenya’s political landscape, particularly concerning the judiciary’s independence and the appointment of crucial positions within the legal system.

The coming days will likely see increased scrutiny and discussions surrounding these claims, shaping the narrative of Kenya’s political and judicial spheres.
