Governor’s Son Arrested in Murder Investigation

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations sealed off Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s residence and conducted a raid on her office at the Meru County Headquarters on Saturday.

The operation resulted in the apprehension of five suspects, including the Governor’s son and brother.

Governor Mwangaza vehemently denied any association with blogger Daniel Muthiani Bernard, known as Sniper, who had been a vocal critic of her administration.

Safaricom logs revealed, however, that a confidant of the Governor engaged in a ten-minute conversation with the blogger on the day of his disappearance.

Allegedly, Muthiani was offered an opportunity to collaborate with the Governor’s office for improved remuneration, a proposal he seemingly accepted before being declared missing on December 3, 2023. Tragically, his body was discovered in River Nithi two weeks later.

Renowned bloggers Cyprian Nyakundi, Robert Alai, and Dennis Itumbi have united in demanding justice for the slain blogger, who had gained notoriety for his satirical prayer video clips criticizing Governor Mwangaza’s administration.

In Kenya, political bloggers are not confined to traditional blog pages but actively engage on various social media platforms, including TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube.

Supuu O Mioro, a vocal public relations assistant associated with Governor Mwangaza, was arrested as the initial prime suspect and remains in police custody.

The lead detective overseeing the investigation has urged the public to remain calm and refrain from unnecessary speculation.
