Raila Odinga in Mourning

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party revealed the passing of Philip Makabong’o, the Chairman of the ODM Migori County Coordinating Committee. The party refrained from disclosing the cause of his death but expressed deep sorrow over losing a significant member.

Describing Makabong’o as a pillar, ODM extended heartfelt condolences, acknowledging his impactful contributions not only within Migori County but on a national level. The official statement emphasized Makabong’o’s pivotal role in the party’s fabric.

In 2018, Makabong’o gained attention for urging the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to address early campaigning by senatorial hopefuls.

This call coincided with the vacant senatorial seat left by the late Senator Ben Oluoch Okello. Makabong’o expressed disappointment at the premature campaigning, criticizing the move as “very unfortunate.”

Tragedy struck Makabong’o’s life in 2019 when his residence became the target of an attack by unidentified individuals. Two vehicles, a Toyota Sprinter and a Subaru, were set ablaze while Makabong’o and his family were asleep, creating a distressing situation for the political figure.

Earlier in the same year, Makabong’o faced a personal tragedy when his son suffered serious injuries during a dispute over a 1.4-acre piece of land in the Kitere area of Rongo Constituency.

Despite facing challenges and personal setbacks, Makabong’o remained dedicated to his political role within the ODM party.

The ODM party’s tweet announcing Makabong’o’s passing was accompanied by a photo, symbolizing the shared grief within the political community. The party’s recognition of Makabong’o’s national significance underscores the impact of his contributions beyond the borders of Migori County.

As the ODM party mourns the loss of a prominent member, Makabong’o’s legacy will undoubtedly be remembered for his commitment to the party’s ideals and his efforts to uphold the integrity of the political process.

In conclusion, Philip Makabong’o’s untimely demise marks a significant loss for the ODM party, leaving a void that will be challenging to fill. The party and its members join in mourning, remembering Makabong’o as a stalwart who contributed not only locally but also to the broader political landscape of Kenya. May his soul rest in peace.
