List of Raila Men Awarded Highest Civilian Honour

During the Jamhuri Day celebrations, President William Ruto conferred the prestigious Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart of Kenya (EGH) upon 27 individuals, marking the highest civilian recognition for those who exemplify excellence.

The recipients, predominantly politicians and members of the President’s cabinet, were acknowledged for their outstanding contributions.

In a notable mention, President Ruto highlighted Faith Kipyegon’s remarkable journey, praising her transition from running barefoot to breaking two world records within a year. Emphasizing her heroism, he expressed that Faith’s achievements serve as an inspiration to young and aspiring athletes across the nation.

At the forefront of the EGH awardees was Chief of the Kenya Defence, General Ogolla Francis Omondi. Additionally, President Ruto honored his Chief of Staff, Koskei Felix Kiptarus, with the highest civilian rank, recognizing exceptional service and dedication.

Cabinet Secretaries who received the top award include; Davis Chirchir (Energy), Rebecca Miano (Trade), Zachariah Njeru (Water), and Susan Nakhumicha (Health).

Other Cabinet Secretaries on the list were; Eliud Owalo (ICT), Ezekiel Machogu (Education), Peninah Malonza (EAC), Soipan Tuya (Environment), and Mithika Linturi (Agriculture). 

The President also awarded the top honour to politicians allied to Azimio Leader Raila Odinga serving in different capacities through the Azimio coalition. 

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti was among opposition leaders to be bestowed the honour together with National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi.

Senator Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, both allies of Raila Odinga, were among those conferred with the EGH rank.

Despite the recognition of opposition politicians, the 27-member list was predominantly comprised of leaders affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Senate Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and his counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot spearheaded the UDA representatives in receiving the EGH rank.

Notable UDA figures on the list included governors Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu), Susan Kihika (Nakuru), Sakaja Johnson (Nairobi), Kimani Wamatangi (Kiambu), and Cecily Mbarire (Embu). Additionally, governors Hassan Abdi Ibrahim (Isiolo), Khalif Mohamed Adan (Mandera), and Ali Mohamud Mohamed (Marsabit) were among those honored.
