Drama as Waiguru Gets Attacked Infront of Ruto

Kirinyaga Woman Representative Jane Njeri Maina has once again alleged that Governor Anne Waiguru was involved in an incident where she was roughed up by goons at a political function in August.

While addressing the residents during the commissioning of link roads in Ndia, Kirinyaga County, Maina recounted the incident in front of President William Ruto, claiming that she could identify her attackers who were present at the function.

However, in a surprise turn of events, the MP forgave her alleged attackers and urged them to preach peace.

She also claimed that police who were handling the investigations had assured her that they would arrest her attackers who attended the event.

“While you were away, there were people who had plotted to kill me and I pray that let’s practice peace when engaging in politics. Since I don’t want to keep a grudge, Governor Anne Waiguru I have forgiven you, even those suspects you sent to attack me, I have forgiven them as well,” Maina stated.

“I can see them here, I have spoken to the County Commissioner, Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), and County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), and they have assured me that within one week, they will be brought to book because we must follow the law.”

Waiguru, who had earlier addressed the residents, did not touch on the issue but urged President Ruto to prioritise Kirinyaga County when conducting the revised budget in February 2024.

“The road linking Kangumo and heading to Kangaita, the budget is around Ksh2 billion. The amount already dispatched is Ksh200 million. I request the president to consider adding the amount when doing the revised budget in February so that the road can be completed,” Waiguru added.

Further, Waiguru lauded Ruto for the subsidised fertiliser programme, where the prices were reduced from Ksh6,500 to Ksh2,500. She added that the move has assisted farmers in upscaling the growth of agricultural products in the county.

On August 22, 2023, chaos erupted during a meet-the-people tour attended by Maina when a group of rowdy youth blocked her from addressing the public.

Following the attack, the MP was airlifted to Nairobi for a medical emergency.
