Sossion’s Mother Collapses and Dies

Former Nominated Member of Parliament Wilson Sossion’s mother Ruth Chepng’eno has passed away.

In a statement, the former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General revealed that his late mother collapsed at home and was pronounced dead on arrival at Tenwek Mission Hospital in Bomet County.

“It is with deep shock and sorrow that we announce the passing on to the glory of our beloved mother Ruth Chepng’eno Session,” the politician said in his statement.

By the time of publishing this article, it was not immediately clear if Chepng’eno was ailing before her untimely death.

Following her death, leaders across the political divide including those from Bomet where Sossion hails from sent their condolence messages.

“Heartfelt condolence to you and your family,” former Bomet East MP Bernard Bett said in a statement.

The politician also received condolence messages from the education sector where he cut his teeth.

Sossion, a teacher by profession began his career as a tutor at Tenwek High School in 1983.

He would later ascend to the pinnacle of education trade unions in 2013 when he was elected as KNUT Secretary General.

The former nominated MP has worked closely with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in the past which nominated him to Parliament.

In the buildup to the 2022 election, he jumped ship and pledged loyalty to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He unsuccessfully sought the party’s nomination ticket to vie for the Bomet County Senatorial seat.
