DCI Goes After Kalonzo Musyoka

The Wiper Democratic Movement party, which is affiliated with former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, is under investigation by the police for alleged fraud.R

Reports reaching Challyhnews state that the DCI in Nairobi has called five top Wiper officials to appear for an interview about claims of false swearing and document forgery related to the lawsuit the party had submitted to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal.

The National Chairman of the Party, Chirau Ali Mwakwere, the Secretary-General, Shakilla Abdalla, the Chairperson of the Elections Board, Agatha Solitei, the Head of ICT for the Party, Roy Ombasa, and Abdulla Gakurya have all been summoned.

The party allegedly used fake documents to try to sway a case where they wanted to change the nomination of businessman Abubakar Ahmed Talib, according to sources.

According to DCI reports, Talib reported to police that his name had been improperly changed to Lucas Mulinge Wambua using fake documents, including affidavits used to support the change and later in court.

The party’s Secretary-General Abdalla has been charged with swearing an affidavit on its behalf, stating that she had attended a meeting on July 22 where the decision was made, but Talib claims that on that same day, Ms. Abdalla was in Lamu.

There is a discrepancy in Ms. Abdalla’s affidavit regarding the date the positions for parliamentary and senate nomination were advertised.

Ms. Abdalla claimed that the party had posted an internal advertisement on its website on July 15, but a back end IT system verification revealed that the claimed advertisement had actually been posted on July 28.

The DCI has acknowledged that some officials have recorded statements while others haven’t, but they’ve also acknowledged that those who haven’t will be arrested if they don’t show up to do so.
