Babu Owino Kicked Out of Parliament

Embakasi East Member of Parliament will miss four parliamentary sittings after he was kicked from the House by Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei.

The vocal MP was kicked out after he caused a scene during a discussion of the leadership of the Kenya Young Parliamentarians Association (KYPA).

Owino drew the ire of the Deputy Speaker after he rose on a point of order and started shouting at her while he contested the list presented at parliament for KYPA leadership.

A calm Shollei warned the MP of his disorderly conduct and directed him to apologise noting that it was against the rules of parliament to shout at the Speaker.

“Babu Owino you are out of order. You do not shout at me. You better withdraw your remarks,” Shollei ordered.

Not ready to back down, the MP continued to engage the Speaker verbally while gesturing in agitation.

Soy MP David Kiplagat coming to the defence of Shollei engaged Owino in a shouting match.

To prevent the situation spilling out of control, the Deputy Speaker told Kiplagat that he was out of order.

She further added that she did not need help as she was able to diffuse the situation.

With Babu Owino refusing to listen to orders from Shollei, the Deputy Speaker standing for Moses Wetangula had no option but to issue the parliamentarian with last warning.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) elected legislator refused to take notice of the last warning and continued shouting at Shollei.
