Full List of Areas Where Protests Have Intensified

The Maandamano happening in Kenya on Wednesday, July 12, seems to be larger, more spontaneous, and widely spread than any other that has ever happened in Kenya.  Led by Raila Odinga, Kenyans seem to be sending a clear message to President William Ruto.

The current Maandamano is happening in more than 15 places in Kenya with businesses being at a standstill. Nothing is happening. In Nairobi, Thika Road is empty.

No matatus plying the busy highway. Juja Road, Mombasa Road, and Jogoo Road are only left like ghost roads.

Here are areas rocked by violent protests:

  1. Nairobi
  2. Nakuru
  3. Mlolongo
  4. Emali
  5. Kilifi
  6. Mombasa
  7. Nyeri
  8. Meru
  9. Murang’a
  10. Kisii
  11. Kisumu
  12. Siaya
  13. Eldoret
  14. Makueni
  15. Wote
  16. Turkana
  17. Kitengela
  18. Kirinyaga
  19. Kitale
  20. Busia

Almost all businesses within the Nairobi CBD are shut. Given that the CBD generates at least one billion shillings daily in business, means, by the end of the day, at least that much will be affected in terms of revenues. This is without touching on the matatu sector.

Some of the issues that the protesters are calling on President William Ruto to address are the high taxes including 16 percent on petroleum products, the high cost of living, corruption, and arrogance by the majority of his Cabinet Secretaries.
