EQUITY BANK ROBBED BY FOUR GANGSTERS

Four suspected gangsters who raided Equity Bank in Matuu Machakos county 2 years ago were on  Monday shot dead in Takaungu Kilifi county.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the four were in the past few months responsible for a string of armed robberies in Machakos, Mombasa, and Kwale Counties.

In the 2021 incident in Matuu, the thugs raided Equity Bank and made away with an undisclosed amount of money.

This was after they disarmed the officer who was on duty and took off with her AK-47 rifle, serial number KE KP 5527115, which was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

“Since then, the miscreants terrorized Kenyans in over 10 armed robberies, through brazen attacks some staged during the day, targeting Mpesa shops and other business establishments in Mombasa and Kwale counties,’’ stated DCI.

The DCI launched an investigation to track down the lost firearm, which was later linked to two suspects identified as Festus and Tsuma Ndoro.

DCI officers were deployed to go after the thugs and, on Monday, managed to locate them at Likoni.

“The sleuths in an unmarked hatchback trailed them from the Likoni ferry to Shimanzi, Nyali, and Shariani before finally cornering them in Takaungu, moments to midnight. The miscreants were headed to Kilifi town to commit more robberies when our men scattered their mission,’’ added DCI.

The four tried to challenge the officers by shooting sporadically at them but were overpowered, and the lost firearm was recovered alongside two motorcycles that facilitated the robberies from the thugs.
