LIST OF 60 POLICE OFFICERS WHOSE PROMOTION HAS BEEN REVOKED.

The long-brewing rivalry between the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) and police chief Japhet Koome eventually came to a head on Tuesday, June 6.

This came after the NPSC openly criticised Koome for the illegal, irregular, and improper promotion of more than 500 senior officers. The commission issued a blunt news release in which it said Koome lacked the legal power to promote the officers and said any service member who attempted to enact the suggested modifications “would be personally held liable”.

The impasse is likely to leave the police force uncertain about whether the changes will be implemented, and if they are, it may also cause uncertainty about who will now be reporting to whom.

In light of this, TUKO.co.ke examines the names of the new officials Koome has elevated.

Senior Superintendent of police was the new rank for all DCIOs in Nairobi. There are John Mutonga (Kisii Central), Abdirashid Yakub (Kilimani), Charles Ate (Lang’ata), Harold Kimaro (Kasarani), Patrick Gikunda (Dagoretti), Robert Muriithi (Central), Paul Mwenda (Kiambu), Stephen Mutua (Embakasi), Martin Korongo (Makadara), and Charles Ate (Lang’ata).
