MATIANGI MAKES BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. SURPRISE MANY

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is expected to issue a statement on his next move after the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) dropped charges against him. The DPP withdrew the charges of publishing false information and conspiracy to commit a felony against Matiang’i.

Reports suggest that the withdrawal of the charges was due to his agreement to switch sides and join the government, leaving the opposition. Matiang’i is set to address these issues and more in a statement prepared over the weekend.

Despite Matiang’i’s potential move to join the government, his allies from Gusii warn against any announcement regarding joining the Kenya Kwanza side, as this could harm him.

Kisii senator Richard Onyonka has urged Matiang’i to stay silent for a while as he plans his next move and not to join the Ruto side. Onyonka believes that if Matiang’i crosses over to the Ruto side, he will be seen as a coward and never be forgiven by the Kisii community.

It has also emerged that the DPP’s decision not to prosecute Matiang’i may have been influenced by Ruto, after pressure from some Kisii leaders.

Borabu MP Patrick Osero and other Kisii leaders reportedly met with Ruto and warned him about the implications of harassing Matiang’i, especially in Kisii. Matiang’i has not been in good terms with Ruto since former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s second term, after he was handed some of Ruto’s roles following the then DP’s fallout with Uhuru.
