GOOD NEWS TO TIM WANYONYI

Westlands parliamentary aspirant Michael Gumo has stepped down from the August race in favor of incumbent MP Tim Wanyonyi.

Azimio la Umoja Secretary General Junet Mohammed, speaking on Sunday, said the decision was arrived at after the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party held consultative talks.

This means that Wanyonyi will be defending his seat under an ODM ticket in the August polls.

“We had consultations chaired by Odinga and Michael Gumo has accepted to step down in favor of Wanyonyi. The matter has now been sorted those waiting for a fallout should know today is a good Sunday belonging to the Lord,” said Junet.

“Those who wanted a big fallout just know that we have sorted all this out and we will make sure that this seat will be maintained by ODM.”

Denying that there are zoned areas for ODM, Junet reiterated that all candidates have been given liberty to contest for seats they wish to but should a zoning need arise, it will be a seamless move.

“There is no agreed position on zoning we have mechanisms to deal with those issues. As of now everyone is allowed to contest in any part of the country,” stated Junet.

“If there is necessity, it will not be a forced thing, we will use internal mechanisms to sort it out.”

Gumo had moved to court to challenge ODM’s decision to nominate Wanyonyi, with the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) nullifying his nomination.

The PPDT also revoked Wanyonyi’s certificate, ordering ODM to conduct fresh nominations within 72 hours.

Wanyonyi had initially launched his bid for the Nairobi governorship seat but dropped it in favor of Polycarp Igathe under a Jubilee ticket.

Wanyonyi will be up against against UDA’s Nelson Havi.
