INTERIOR CS FRED MATIANG’I PROMOTED AGAIN

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has been installed as a Luo elder in a ceremony held in Nyakach, Kisumu County on Thursday.

Matiang’i, who opened Nyakach Central Division offices, was hailed by Luo elders as a defender of the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.

“The new administrative unit brings to seven the number of divisions in Kisumu County.

“It will be a center for essential services to serve over 150,000 residents including issuance of title deeds, birth certificates and security,” Matiang’i said when he commissioned the new division.

He further urged provincial administrators to rally behind President Uhuru and support his policies including the Handshake.

Matiang’i said the Handshake has brought peace in the country and allowed the government to function without disturbance as it delivers services to Kenyans.

The CS further directed Chiefs and their assistants to ensure that 52000 uncollected identification cards (IDs) in the region are delivered to their owners before the new year begins.

He also urged them to ensure all the youth who are above 18 years of age register for IDs so that they can be enrolled as voters in a second mass voter registration scheduled for early next year.

Matiang’i further weighed in on his perceived support for the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for presidency next year.

“It is my democratic right to choose whoever I want to be my president and I have no apologies to make about it,” he said.
