WILLIAM RUTO REPLIES FRED MATIANG’I

Deputy President William Ruto has fired back at Interior CS Fred Matiang’i following his statements at the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security on Wednesday, September 1.

In a statement released by his spokesperson David Mugonyi, the DP has faulted CS Matiang’i for being reckless and lacking interest in his security.

According to the DP, Matiang’i appearance before the security committee was after humiliating and ridiculing him and his office.

“From the utterances attributed to Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, there is no evidence whatsoever that he understands or is interested in understanding the global constitutional or even local context of concerns about the security of the Deputy President,” Mugonyi said.

“Dr Matiang’i has abused public resources and the power of his office to score cheap political points in futile attempt to humiliate, disparage, denigrate and ridicule the person and the Office of the Deputy President for political propaganda,” he added.

The DP argues that the Interior CS has conducted himself in a manner that is unbecoming of the holder of the of such high office he occupies.

According to him, the interior CS has attempted to profile him and his office as ineligible to receive services from the Ministry of Interior.

He further accused him of discrimination by singling out the particulars of his security arrangements, a move he says poses a great danger to his well-being.

“By singling out the Deputy President and casting adverse attention to the particulars of his security arrangements, the Cabinet Secretary discriminated against the office and the person of the Deputy President, potentially exposing him to further security threats,” Mugonyi added in the statement.

On the properties that CS Matiang’i listed as his, the DP says most of them do not belong to him.

He defended himself on the issue of his massive wealth saying he acquired them legally.

He added that he is on record announcing his readiness for a lifestyle audit as announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2018, a move he says would have vindicated him from allegations peddled over his wealth.
