STUDENTS OF KAKAMEGA HIGH SCHOOL TO PAY SH 21.6 MILLION

Parents of students at Kakamega Boys High School will pay Ksh. 21.6 million for damages incurred on the institution’s premises following a fire that occurred on November 6, 2021.

In a notice, the school’s administration ordered students to report back between November 15 and November 25 accompanied by their parents.

Each student will be required to pay Ksh. 9,823 to cover the damages, clear all outstanding school fees and present the banking slips on the reporting days.

According to the school, the grand total of the damages amounted to Ksh.21,611,360 which was divided equally among the 2,200 learners at the institution to arrive at the aforementioned Ksh. 9,823 figure.

“As per the Ministry of Transport Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works report on the burnt dormitory, the Bill of Quantities done as per assessment by the public works officer stands at Kshs. 12,185,540.00,”  the notice read in part.

“The cost of the CCTV installation in the building is estimated at Ksh. 695,420.00 while the cost of 280 double decker beds is Ksh.4, 194,400. Total cost for the items of the 560 students damaged by the fire is estimated at Kshs. 4,536,000.00.”

Form Four students are expected to report on November 15 while Forms One, Two and Three should return to school on November 21, 23 and 25 respectively. All students should be at the school by 8:00 AM on the said dates.

The school administration said it will provide a mattress, two blankets and two bedsheets to the students whose items were burnt in the fire.
