HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT CAUGHT WITH LIVE BULLET.

A 17-year-old student was found in possession of a bullet matching that of an AK-47 firearm, In yet another alarming incident of growing indiscipline in secondary schools. 

The teenager was among numerous students arrested  at King David Kamama High school in Embu county during a security operation to quell a riot. 

The student and his colleague were arrested after their colleague was found trying to torch the dormitory at night.

A security guard at the school was making night rounds during his shift when he spotted smoke hailing from the dormitory. He rushed towards the source to find out what was burning. 

He was able to get a glimpse of one fleeing student and managed to recognize his face. 

On storming the dormitory, he found papers on fire stashed under the bed in attempts to torch the building. Luckily, nothing had caught fire.

The guard reported to the school principal who called all the students to the parade ground. The guard was able to identify the student who had lit the fire.

The school principal authorized a thorough search for all the students in the school to establish who was keeping a matchbox or any other weapon that was a threat to the school’s order. 

The search yielded results as one of the students was found with a bullet in his pocket. According to Daniel Rukunga, Embu County Commander, the bullet is 7.62 millimeters and matched an AK-47 rifle.

Two students have since been taken into police custody over the incident. 

It is barely three weeks since another dormitory was torched.  Recently 24 girls from St. Catherine Nthagaiya school in the county were arrested alongside a staff member amidst plans to burn a school.

The country has reported numerous cases of student arson and crime rise in schools. This led to the closure of several schools that been set ablaze in January.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha warned parents that they will cover costs for damages caused by their children. He warned that all students involved in crime and destruction of school property would be jailed to prevent the rest from being partisans.

He also added that the crimes will be recorded in databases and such a reputation would follow the culprit even after leaving school. 

The DCI has also warned students arrested that the crimes would be recorded and also reflect in their Certificate of Good Conduct.
