ADEN DUALE REVEALS WHAT PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA HAS DONE

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale wants Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani to explain how the Sh2 billion that was allocated to drought mitigation measures had been utilised.

Duale said when Parliament resumes on Tuesday, he will seek to summon the CS to the House to explain how the funds have been managed.

Duale said that the reality on the ground does not conform to President Uhuru Kenyatta’s pronouncement on drought mitigation measures in the Arid and Semi Arid Lands (ASALs) region.

In his Mashujaa Day speech, Uhuru directed the Treasury to allocate Sh1.5 billion to support communities affected by the ongoing drought in the ASAL counties as part of the National Livestock Off take programme.

The government had also announced that it had set aside Sh2.4 billion to handle the situation disclosing that Ksh1.2 billion had been spent on purchasing food for affected families in October.

According to Duale (left) there is little to show on the ground relating to mitigation state assurance.

“The President declared drought a national disaster and directed allocation of resources to mitigate its effects.

We are yet to see anything on the ground concerning the use of that money,” he said.

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna, while speaking in Wajir last week during a food distribution exercise, said the government was in control of the situation in the 23 most-affected counties and will remain proactive in providing food and other essential services.
