MP TALKS ABOUT INTERIOR SECURITY CS FRED MATIANG’I IMPEACHMENT

Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama on Friday said the plan to impeach Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has no grounds and will not succeed.

He said Gusii MPs will oppose the impeachment.

“We have come together as Gusii MPs to strongly condemn the pending impeachment by Tangatanga MPs. This impeachment will not go anywhere,” Arama said on the phone.

Nyali MP Muhammed Ali on Thursday tabled a notice of impeachment motion against the CS. Some 92 MPs have already appended their signatures.

But Arama cautioned MPs against allowing themselves to be used by greedy leaders who have personal political interests.

“We should avoid some leaders who want to mislead us. Some Tangatanga MPs are being used to bring up issues that cannot take us anywhere as a country,” he said.

“We are firmly behind our son. This impeachment has no grounds. As a community, we need to come together and condemn this matter in the strongest terms possible.”

He said those behind the impeachment plans are just out to malign Matiang’i, but Gusii leaders will not allow their kingpin to be disrespected by politicians with no direction.

Arama noted that the matters mentioned in the impeachment documents have no grounds as they had been addressed by the courts.

“The leaders have come out with issues to do with Ruaraka land and the killings within the National Police Service, but it should be clear that the Ruaraka land issue was addressed by the court a long time ago.

“Also, the CS is not in charge of the police. He is a policymaker in the ministry. The alleged crime within the police service should be addressed by the Inspector General of Police,”  Arama said.

City-based lawyer Stephen Mogaka said those who think it is a good idea to talk about impeachment at this time should think wisely and withdraw.

“This is the time when we should be thinking about what we have achieved as leaders, not the time for us to start fights with our colleagues from the Executive,” Mogaka said.
