FAMOUS KENYAN JUDGE DIES

Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced the death of Justice Leonard Njagi who died on Sunday morning after a prolonged illness.

“On my own behalf and the entire Judiciary, I convey our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Justice Njagi,” Koome said in a statement.

“In particular, I want to reach out to Dorcas Njagi together with her children and assure her our prayers that our Almighty God will give them comfort during this time of mourning a dear husband and dad.”

She eulogised Njagi as a man who contributed tremendously to the legal profession.

The CJ said that Njagi trained many lawyers, including her.

“I also know many other lawyers who were his students and they have served this nation, regionally and internationally in various capacity from top politicians, senior judges, professors, senior lawyers, and others working in key positions.”

She also said that Njagi was friendly and helpful to his students at the University of Nairobi, Kenya School of Law, and the Bench.

“The national and the legal profession has lost one of the best lawyers and judge who contributed immensely to the growth of the profession and the development of the law.”

During his time, the Judiciary benefited from his knowledge of the law, especially his expertise in Commercial Law.

“His decisions while serving as a Judge in the Commercial Division continue to be cited as precedents that guide the determination of disputes to date.”
