UNBELIEVABLE AMOUNT OF KIPCHOGE WAS PAID AFTER WINNING.

On Sunday morning, Kenya’s marathon hero Eliud Kipchoge once again made his country proud after he retained his Olympic gold medal.

Kipchoge won the men’s marathon with a record time of 2:08:38.

Following the victory, Kipchoge becomes the third athlete to successfully defend an Olympic title in a marathon after retaining the crown he won five years ago in Rio, Brazil.

Since the International Olympic Committee doesn’t issue prize money to medalists, Kenya is expected to reward Kipchoge for the gold medal he won at the Olympics.

According to reports, Kenya pays $10,000 (Ksh.1,088,000) pays for athletes who win gold, $7,500 (Ksh.816,000) for silver medalists and $5000 (Sh544,000) for bronze.

The report implies that Eliud Kipchoge will now pocket over a million shilling from the Kenyan government.

The amount is however lesser compared to other African countries that issue a larger amount of medal prizes. In Morocco for instance gold medalists are paid around $225,067 (Sh24,480,537), while silver medalists are given $140,667 (Sh,300,349) and bronze medalists take home $84,400 (Ksh.9.180,188).

In South Africa on the other hand, gold medalists are paid Ksh.4 million while silver winners are given Ksh.2 million while bronze medalists take Sh.816,000.

While Nigeria is planning to pay gold medalists Ksh.1.6, silver medalist Ksh.,088,000, and Sh.816,000 for silver medalists.
