FAMILY MEMBERS FIGHT OVER LATE KOINANGE’S SEAT

The Late MP Paul Koinange’s wife June is set to compete against her sister-in-law Lennah Wanjiku Mbiu in the upcoming Kiambaa by-election.

A report by Daily Nation on Monday, April 26, indicated that June, popularly known as Maitu June, disclosed that she will be contesting the seat on a Jubilee ticked.

“There have been discussions in Kiambaa that have brought together voters and opinion leaders.

“The people have agreed that they need a strong personality to complete projects initiated by the late Hon Paul Koinange,’’ she stated.

June is currently a PhD candidate at the United States International University- Africa (USIU) and works as a counselling psychologist.

Her declaration comes barely a week after Lennah, who is the last born child in the family of the late Minister Mbiyu Koinange, and cousin to Citizen TV News anchor Jeff Koinange, was fronted by her family in a special ceremony held at their home on Saturday, April 17.

Lennah was fronted during a special ceremony in which MPs from Nyanza paid a visit to the family to mourn the death of the late lawmaker.

“We heard there are nearly 20 people who want Paul’s seat, and in our family, there were over 10 people. We continued sieving and settled on Lennah to be our flagbearer yesterday (Friday, April 16),” stated the representative.

The two join a growing list of nearly 20 aspirants in the race including the late Paul Koinange’s opponent Kariri Njama.
