ANNE WAIGURU’S SON GETS A SCHOLARSHIP

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru’s son, Roy Waiguru, was among students from Brookhouse International School who won a scholarship following a competition.

Students from the school were competing with learners from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe during the University of Dundee’s African Schools Mooting Competition 2021.

The competition saw each team member of Brookhouse International School win a £100 (Ksh 15,010) voucher and a scholarship of £5,000 (750, 505) per annum should they apply and be accepted to one of Dundee’s LLB programmes.

Waiguru congratulated her son for the achievement and indicated that the young minds would soon be a force to reckon with in Kenya.

“So proud of my son Ron and his teammates for the outstanding performance at African Schools Mooting Competition 2021.

“Senior counsel Fred Ngatia, Ahmednasir Abdulahi and Donald Kipkorir, watch out, the future is here,” Waiguru added.

The competition had 13 teams. Each made a case against an opposing counsel and before two judges.

“They were asked to make submissions in a fictitious civil law appeal before the United Kingdom Supreme Court,” reads an excerpt of a press release from the University of Dundee.

Victoria Gichuki, Teacher of Law at Brookhouse Schools, indicated that the competition gave a valuable opportunity to hone both their written and oral advocacy skills, which the students enjoyed. 

“They were elated and extremely proud of their achievement when they received the news of their win during the prize-giving ceremony. We applaud our students for a job well done and look forward to the next competition,” Gichuki stated.

The team from Tema International School (TIS) in Ghana were named runners-up, with Chisipite Senior School in Zimbabwe finishing in third place.
