DUALE CHANGES TUNE ABOUT BBI

Aden Duale has listed demands which he says will have to be met before they can join hands and support the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

According to the legislator, the North Eastern region will vote against the bill unless their demands were met conclusively.

In his demands, Duale wants the North Eastern region to be awarded two extra constituencies.

“If you want us to listen to this BBI thing, then give us the two extra constituency seats. It is very sad how we are being hoodwinked into supporting the amendments when our interests have clearly not been met,” said Duale.

The lawmaker further stated that Ijara and Wajir South constituencies can each be split into two to create the additional constituencies.

The member of Parliament faulted both President Uhuru and ODM party leader Raila Odinga for not rewarding the late Yussuf Haji who chaired the BBI committee.

“Honestly, Uhuru and Raila formed the committee led by our very own Senator Yussuf Haji who despite his age went round the country, but at last this is what they did to him; not even rewarding him with a constituency which is sad,” said Duale.

Duale wondered why Ijara and Wajir were not awarded constituencies while others benefited.

On his part, Governor Ali Korane said even though they are disgruntled, they will support the document as they push for the extra constituency.

In 2019, Duale was vocal on his stand with regards to BBI, even arguing that it would not yield any results just like the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report.

‘’Amidst all the calls for a referendum, which in my view are just distractions tactics, we must be cautious not to allow the BBI report to be just another report that shall gather dust somewhere in a locker! We have been there before!’’ warned Duale on Twitter.

Duale’s sentiments come after Western Members of County Assembly (MCAs) demanded an additional Ksh500,000 after being awarded Ksh2 million Car Grant by the President.
