MOSES KURIA’S PLAN FOR NAIROBI GUBERNATORIAL SEAT

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has expressed his interest in the Nairobi governor seat.

According to a report by People Daily, the legislator said that he is ready to resign to join the race for the vacant Nairobi’s gubernatorial seat following the impeachment of Mike Sonko.

Kuria told the publication that he will be seeking the post on a People’s Empowerment Party ticket.

Kuria’s posters are already circulating across the city with the vocal MP keen to rally Nairobians to support his bid to take over the leadership of the City Hall.

Former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru has also confirmed that she will throw her hat in the race and is looking to have the DP to support her for the seat.

“I work with Ruto, so I will vie with the Hustler Nation team. We work with what wananchi say. The people have decided it’s me and it is up to them to decide the ticket I will use,” Wanjiru said.

Others floated as possible candidates in the by-election are former Gatanga MP and presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth former Dagoretti, MP Dennis Waweru, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo among others.

Kenyan exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna has also declared his candidature for the seat.

On Monday, December 21, Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura took over the leadership of the county in an acting capacity after he was sworn in giving IEBC a 60 days window to conduct the by-election.

Mutura’s first duty at City Hall was signing a warrant that gives the Treasury green light to release the money to the county.

The warrant also gives the green for the implementation of the Nairobi City County Budget FY 2020-21 of Sh 37. 5 billion, this being uploaded in the IFMIS.

In the budget, Nairobi Metropolitan Service was allocated Sh 27.1 billion, City Hall Sh8.4 billion and assembly Sh2 billion.
