MUDAVADI CHANGES TUNE ON BBI

When Mudavadi with his perpetual grin stepped up to append his signature in support of the constitutional amendments one frustrated fan captured the mood perfectly. “Supporting Musalia is difficult, you do not know when he will wake up one day and decide to leave you in his own house,” the fan said.

Mudavadi had earlier indicated that he will not support BBI without some irreducible minimums. Yesterday he predictably changed tune and decided to use ANC headquarters as a room for supporting BBI signatures collection exercise. Maybe when Musalia woke up yesterday he thought he would cause ripples in the country with his sudden support of BBI campaign. He pictured himself usurping Uhuru and Raila as he graced the front pages of today’s publications.

Mudavadi is no longer the 28 year old Moi picked from the university to replace his powerful father – Moses Mudavadi. People could have forgiven the 28 year old boy for having lofty dreams but it is time someone stepped up and told Musalia the truth. No one cares or takes him seriously.

When Kenya was hit by the first major scandal that bore all these scandals we have today Musalia was the Minister of Finance. He was in charge of the republic’s coffers when Goldenberg scandal almost bankrupted the nation. When Kibaki came into power, investigations about the scandal commenced. Big names were grilled and shamed yet Musalia was largely ignored. Yes he was the minister of finance, yes all this happened under his watch but no one thought he mattered enough to be shamed like the others. Even when he sacrificed 5 years in the August house to become a Vice President for three months only no one ridiculed him. No one pitied him either. As usual he was invisible to many Kenyans. When Uhuru suspended pensions for Raila and Kalonzo, no one remembered to ask if Musalia was still getting his pension.

Yesterday Musalia tweeted that his party was engaging legal minds to examine if their proposed changes were ratified. Funny to do that as he planned to append his signature in support of the document. Jokes on Martha Karua, she met this guy few months ago thinking he would offer something meaningful to the discussion.

“Our legal experts are scrutinising the Bill in detail to enable us [to] comment meaningfully later. Attached in the link below is a copy of the gazetted Bill,” he tweeted. A few hours later Kenyans would see him signing in support of the document.

“I attended the official launch of the signature collection exercise at KICC where the BBI Gazetted Bill was released. My quick scrutiny indicates that some of the concerns that I and other Kenyans expressed have been largely addressed,” he posted on his Facebook page.

He did not say which changes or which Kenyans but to his defence no one cared. No camp would think Musalia is indispensable. In2013 , TNA left him out in the cold. He decided to teach them a lesson by declaring to run for the top seat himself. No one begged him to come back. Even the CORD team did not waste efforts begging him to join them. When Raila went for the handshake he forgot to tell him.

“The diplomatic but firm position that we took as ANC Party has borne fruits. Our quest has not been in vain. We urge Kenyans to read the newly amended document since substantive changes have surely been made.” said Mudavadi. Musalia had raised issues about the creation of an Ombudsman he is yet to tell his supporters how that has been rectified.

With Musalia changing tune, the NO team should not worry nor should the YES team be excited. He might be drafting a statement now capturing a change of heart. Good news to both teams though, It doesn’t matter what Musalia Mudavadi supports, he does not carry significant authority to swing events.
