WOMAN SELLS A BABY FOR 60,000 SHILLINGS

Two women in Mlolongo have been arrested by police for botched child trafficking deal. They had conspired to sell a baby.

Police said that the mother of the baby confessed that she had planned to sell the baby for ksh 60,000.

The child’s birth certificate indicates that he was born on September 2, 2020, at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Mlolongo Division Assistant County Commissioner Dennis Ongaga said that they had received a tip off from a source. It’s then that they decided to lay a trap for the women. The police pretended to be customers in an effort to catch the child traffickers.

“The women have been taken to Mlolongo Police Station for further investigations. The rescued infant has been handed over to a rescue centre in Kitengela,” said Ongaga.

This is not the first case in the region. According to police officers, those cases are rising in the area. They are calling for cooperation with the general population to bring an end to the vice.

“We have well-wishers who have been on the lookout because such incidents have been increasing,” said Ongaga.

Last month, a woman identified as Winnie Rose Mumbe was arrested in the same county for selling her newborn child for Sh1,000 to Tina Mulinge.

In an intriguing crime story, Tina Mulinge disappeared from her husband for nine months. When she came back home she was carrying a bundle of blessings. She told her husband that God had miraculously gave them a baby.

She could never have been arrested where it not for nurses at Machakos Level 5 hospital where she had taken the baby for a clinic check raised alarm.
