Boarding schools to shut down in 2021 -Newspaper Review

From the Star

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has hinted boarding schools may not be opened in January 2021 when schools will be resuming operation.

Magoha noted most of the boarding schools did not have the capacity to put in place necessary safety protocols to curb the spread of the virus.

He mentioned inadequate accommodation facilities to ensure social distance, unreliable water supply and limited sickbay facilities for learners as some of the factors that may compel the ministry to scrap off boarding schools.

The CS further projected that should the cases of COVID-19 continue to surge, then the government may be forced to use some of the schools with boarding facilities as isolation centres.
