Safaricom explains how to use My OneApp to reverse money sent to fraudsters
Safaricom has outlined steps customers can take to report suspected fraud and seek assistance after sending money to fraudsters, urging victims to act immediately to minimise potential losses.
In a fraud awareness campaign shared through whatsap channel on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the telecommunications company advised customers who have sent money to suspicious numbers to contact its customer care team immediately.
“Contact Safaricom immediately. 100 (Prepay) or 200 (Postpay),” the company advised, adding that customers could also use My OneApp to report fraudulent transactions.
In an infographic titled “Umetuma pesa kwa con? Fanya hivi haraka!” (Have you sent money to a fraudster? Do this quickly!), Safaricom outlined five steps customers should follow after falling victim to fraud.
The company urged customers to preserve evidence, including transaction messages, phone numbers and conversations that could help with investigations.
“Keep the evidence,” Safaricom stated, advising customers to retain M-Pesa messages and other information related to the suspicious transaction.
It further encouraged customers to report suspicious phone numbers by sending an SMS containing the number to 333 or using My OneApp.
“Report the suspicious number,” the company stated in its guidelines.
Safaricom also cautioned customers against sending additional money to fraudsters, urging them to follow up on their reports using the reference numbers provided.
In a separate fraud awareness message, the company warned customers against falling for suspicious calls, SMS messages and WhatsApp communications from individuals impersonating Safaricom officials.
“Safaricom will only contact you on 0722 000 000,” the company stated, urging customers to verify calls claiming to originate from the telecommunications provider.
It further warned customers against sharing confidential information, including M-Pesa PINs, passwords and verification codes.
“Never share your M-PESA PIN, passwords or verification codes with anyone,” Safaricom cautioned.
The company also encouraged customers to report suspicious calls, messages and phone numbers through its official reporting channels.
The awareness campaign comes amid growing concerns over mobile money fraud, with customers increasingly being targeted through phishing links, fake promotions, suspicious calls and fraudulent messages.
Safaricom urged customers to remain vigilant, preserve evidence and report suspected fraud promptly.

Early exposure biggest worry as KCSE enters day two
The Ministry of Education is on high alert over the risk of examination papers being exposed before the official start time as the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) written tests entered their second day on Tuesday.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has warned examination officials against carrying mobile phones into examination rooms, citing the risk of sharing examination questions before candidates are allowed to begin writing.
In a public notice, KNEC chief executive officer David Njengere directed centre managers, supervisors, invigilators and security personnel not to enter examination rooms with mobile phones while examination sessions are in progress.
He said the gadgets should be switched off and secured in lockers outside the examination rooms.
In a further measure to prevent technology-enabled cheating and possible leakage of examination content, candidates have also been barred from wearing wristwatches inside examination rooms.
Modern smartwatches and connected devices can store notes, receive messages, access the internet or pair with concealed earpieces to facilitate the transmission of answers during examinations.
KNEC has instructed centre managers to ensure that every examination room has a wall clock to enable candidates to monitor time and manage the duration allocated to each paper.
English and Chemistry were the first papers administered on Monday, followed by Mathematics and English Comprehension on Tuesday.
Basic Education Principal Secretary John Ololtuaa said the stricter measures were intended to protect the integrity of the national examinations and prevent any compromise in their administration.
Centre managers are required to collect examination papers for their respective centres at exactly 7am. Any attempt to open examination containers before the designated time triggers an alert at KNEC headquarters.
"There's no way you can open earlier. If you attempt, the Kenya National Examinations Council will see that you have actually tried to open before the time," Ololtuaa said.
A record 1,048,355 candidates are sitting the examinations across the country.
Although no major incident has so far been reported, the Ministry of Education has acknowledged that examination malpractice remains a major concern despite heightened surveillance and tighter controls.
Impersonation, collusion and possession of unauthorised materials inside examination rooms remain among the offences authorities are seeking to prevent.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said examination integrity was critical to maintaining the credibility of Kenya's academic qualifications and global reputation.
"It's not for nothing that we said we want our exams to be free of those malpractices. This is because a country whose examinations are not credible means certificates that people hold from that country are not respected," he said.
To facilitate prompt reporting and enquiries relating to examination administration, KNEC has provided three telephone contacts through which the public can reach its call centre.
The centre operates around the clock and can be reached through the toll-free numbers 0800-721-410 and 0800-724-900, or its direct non-toll-free line, 0719-093-000.
This is the second-last KCSE examination as Kenya prepares to complete the transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum in 2027.

Ben Hillman has shared an exciting personal update with his followers.
Channel 4's A Place in the Sun has returned with a new season and the second instalment sees presenter Ben Hillman head to the Ionian Sea. Ben has been one of the main hosts of the show since 2016 and he joined the team with a wealth of property knowledge, including running his own interior design business.
After studying Product and Furniture Design at Ravensbourne College, he found early success designing and launching F-LUX lighting, one of the world's first portable LED lights. He has also completed a successful self-build project in Brighton, transforming a 1970s block of flats and adding a new penthouse apartment on the existing flat roof.
Fans are keen to find out more about the handyman's life away from the cameras, and here is all you need to know about his health, family and personal projects.

Back in 2022, Ben ended up in hospital after a horror water slide injury that left him with fractured and dislocated bones. He had been on a family holiday in France when he updated his fans on Instagram, sharing a photo of himself in a hospital bed, with a plate of hospital food.
He wrote: "Not the French cuisine I had in mind for the first day of our family holiday! Managed to acquire an open fracture/dislocation on the water slide." He went into gruesome detail, saying the bone was protruding through his skin.
Offering some advice to his followers, he added: "Word to the wise, don't forget your travel insurance this summer. Have fun out there guys. Hats off to the French healthcare/emergency services." Four weeks on from the accident, he had a metal rod removed from his thumb. Comparing his two hands, he said: "It's going to take some time to get it moving again. My thumb seems to have grown."
Ben Hillman shares updates with his "DIY Girls"
Ben lives in Shoreham-By-Sea with his wife and two children. The TV star has been married to NHS worker Gaby since 2011. The couple share daughters Hope Blossom and Honour Willow, and Ben often shares photos of his family on Instagram.
His daughters often help him out with his renovation work at their home, and he fondly calls them his "DIY girls". Back in 2024, after renovating a bedroom, he shared a photo of himself and his girls hard at work, saying: "This has been a few months in the making, as and when I’ve had time to work on it. It’s been great getting back on the tools though, especially with the DIY girls and for such a special occasion.
"After much designing with the DIY Girls we repainted the pink desk, built a bespoke headboard and redecorated the bedroom before adding a few choice pieces and finishing touches."
Ben updated fans on his Tiny House project
In October 2026, Ben finally sealed the deal on a micro-home he bought at auction in Shoreham, and at the start of November he confirmed he had finally picked up the keys. He filmed the interior of the house, which was looking a little sorry for itself, sharing: "Got the keys to Tiny House today. Instantly regretted it.
"Asbestos in the ceiling, pipes crawling round the walls, a floor that breathes, a lintel that wants me dead… and a boarded-up door nobody can explain. Happy Halloween. Now watch me exorcise the lot." Fans wished him luck on his latest venture, with one commenting: "Congratulations! Let the fun begin! Can't wait to watch your progress @benhillmantv."
In a separate video, he documented the milestone by saying: "A magical moment indeed, it’s completion day and we’ve got the keys to Tiny House." He was heard explaining: "The good news is, I have just completed on Tiny House and the better news than that is I'm in the queue at Disneyland waiting for Ratatouille, awesome."
Ben will continue to document his renovation work at Tiny House on his Instagram account.

Celebrity Traitors winner Bash had ‘secret belief’ he’d make final after being told by witch
In an outcome that most of us didn’t quite see coming, Sebastian ‘Bash’ Croft and Romesh Ranganathan won The Celebrity Traitors on Friday (30 October).
That came after an intense end game with King Kenny and James Blunt following Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Maya Jama’s exit at the final round table.
The final Traitor standing, Kenny, really just lost it at the final hurdle when he voted to end the game. Then, poor James Blunt chose to have another round of voting which pretty much meant he evicted himself from the game as Romesh and Bash stuck together.
But while many of us viewers were surprised to see the actor make it so long (particularly after the Traitors kept considering murdering him), he’d had the trusty prediction from a 'witch' to rely on.
Yep, the Heartstopper star told LADbible that a witch had pretty much confirmed he’d make it to The Celebrity Traitors final.
“I know people aren't that witchy and some people are like, ‘sure, you're in a bad mood because your rising sun is in asparagus, blah, blah, blah’,” Bash tells us.
“But the truth is, I think if you are someone who has witchy tendencies or you're even curious or open, that kind of stuff can be so helpful.”
Apparently, when the 24-year-old spoke with the witch she predicted: “You have an acting job coming up but you're not acting.”
To which he confirmed: “Well there is this thing that's coming up I'm kind of really nervous about it because I don't know how it's going to go.”
Explaining the situation to this witch without quite revealing that it was in fact The Celebrity Traitors: “It's kind of like a game show and you have to kind of try and survive.”
Bash says the witch then asked him when the last filming day was.
“When I told her she asked the spirits and she said ‘you're still going to be there at the end’, and I feel like even if you don't believe in that stuff the fact that I'd been told that was like this small hidden secret belief that I had that genuinely meant I was more relaxed,” he explains.
“I wasn't so worried about going early on because I was like ‘I'm going to be here at the end’ and I think sometimes that like little cuckoo crazy part of my brain that believes in that stuff actually is really helpful because you go like ‘yeah this is going to go well’.”
Bash therefore reckons he stressed ‘less’ during the game because he felt like he’d ‘already achieved it’.
“Then it ends up going better so yeah I’m into being witchy all day every day and she was right,” he adds.
“She's also predicted other stuff in my friends and family's lives, like big stuff.”
Bash also says while he originally wanted to be a Traitor, he’s glad he was picked ass a Faithful.
“I think as an experience it's actually way more fun to play as a faithful because you're so in the dark and you're trying to figure stuff out and you also don't feel that responsible for when people go,” he says.
“I think I could have, and honestly, I would have loved to try being a traitor, but upon reflection I'm very glad I wasn't.”
