3 Politicians Raila Will Endorse in 2027

Former Mombasa governor Hassan Joho has thrown his hat into the ring for the presidency in the forthcoming 2027 elections, signaling a departure from local politics to a national platform.

Dismissing suggestions to vie for a lower seat, Joho emphasized his determination to ascend to the highest office in the land.

Addressing supporters in Mombasa, Joho rebuffed calls to contest a local position, declaring his unequivocal focus on national politics.

He asserted, “I am done with Mombasa politics; I am now concentrating on national politics.” Joho’s announcement, made alongside ODM leader Raila Odinga, positions him within the ODM party and the Azimio La Umoja coalition.

Staking his claim on the ODM ticket, Joho sets the stage for a potential showdown with Raila and fellow deputy leader Wycliffe Oparanya. Expressing readiness to challenge Raila in the party’s nominations, Joho called on the former Prime Minister to consider endorsing his candidacy.

He challenged, “Is there anything wrong with me asking our party leader to raise my hand and say Hassan Joho Tosha?”

In response, Raila affirmed his willingness to step aside, acknowledging that leadership positions within ODM are not reserved. He stated, “No one should think that I am automatically the party leader and the presidential candidate.”

Raila expressed readiness to support any candidate chosen through the democratic process, including Joho, Oparanya, or even Kalonzo Musyoka of the Wiper Democratic Party.

Governor Abdulswamad Nassir commended Joho’s potential in national politics but urged him to allow Raila the opportunity to contest once more. Despite this plea, Joho’s candidacy marks a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape, setting the stage for a dynamic and competitive electoral race in 2027.
