Another Major Breakthrough in Roysambu Murder Case

The life of Rita Waeni Muendo, a 20-year-old student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), was abruptly ended in a gruesome murder that has left her family and friends in shock.

The young woman, known for her friendly nature, was described by her roommate and childhood friend, Patience Wavinya, as an open and soft-spoken individual with ambitious plans for her future.

Wavinya shared that they had a close bond, living together in their JKUAT room, and often exchanged stories. Rita, focused on securing a job after completing her studies, was not secretive about her life. Her simplicity and ability to live within her means characterized her personality, making her a beloved figure among peers.

The tragic news of Rita’s murder unfolded when Wavinya received the shocking information late on a Monday night. Still grappling with the horror of the dismemberment of her friend’s body, Wavinya struggled to find solace in sleep.

Rita’s classmates remember her as an outgoing and social person who utilized her hair plaiting skills to connect with others. The students expressed their grief over the loss of a soft-spoken friend who had left a positive impact on their lives.

The disturbing turn of events took an even darker twist when Rita’s family revealed that the perpetrator had demanded a ransom of Ksh500,000 for her release.

The family received the ransom demand on Sunday, January 14, at 5 am, delivered from Rita’s phone number. Swiftly responding, the family reported the matter to the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), prompting investigations into the tragic incident.

According to the family, Rita had left her aunt’s residence in Syokimau, Machakos county, to meet a friend. They suspect she was lured by her killer, who, even after taking her life, sought to extort money from her grieving family.

The family, shattered by the loss and the brutal circumstances of Rita’s death, emphasized the urgency of solving the case.
