Best 2024 Medical Courses for C- and Below Students

Students who scored C- and below in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam are now eligible to pursue diploma and certificate courses in the medical field.

This initiative is being facilitated by the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) and other accredited institutions approved by the Ministry of Education.

KMTC is not only providing an entry point for C-graded students but also offering an opportunity for those enrolled in certificate courses to upgrade to diploma programs. This progressive approach aims to cater to a broader spectrum of students, enabling them to explore and excel in medical professions.

Kenyans.co.ke has compiled an exhaustive list of medical courses available for students with a KCSE mean grade of C- and below. Among these courses are:

  1. Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics: Students need a mean grade of C- with specific grades in English or Kiswahili, Biology, Chemistry/Physical Science, and one of the subjects such as Home Science, Agriculture, Mathematics, Physics, Physical Sciences, or General Science.
  2. Certificate in Health Records and Information Technology: Besides a C- mean grade, students must have a C- in any language and a D in Biology, along with other subject-specific requirements.
  3. Certificate in Medical Engineering: This course requires a C- KCSE mean grade and specific grades in English or Kiswahili, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biological Sciences, Electricity, Metal Work, Technical Drawing.
  4. Certificate in Public Health: Enrollment demands a C- mean grade with a similar grade in any language, a D+ in Biology, and a D in Mathematics, along with other subject-specific requirements.
  5. Certificate in Orthopedic Trauma Medicine: Apart from a C- mean grade, students need specific grades in English or Kiswahili, Biology, and a D+ in subjects like Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science, Chemistry, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Drawing, Home Science, Agriculture, or Computer Studies.
  6. Certificate in Community Health Nursing: A mean grade of C- is required, along with similar grades in English or Kiswahili and Biology. Additionally, a D+ in Chemistry, Physics, or Mathematics is essential.
  7. Certificate in Community Health Assistant: The course requires a C- mean grade with specific grades in languages, Biology, and either Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics/Physical Sciences, Agriculture, or Home Science.
  8. Certificate in Medical Emergency Technician: Only a C- KCSE mean grade is necessary with no minimum requirements for specific subjects.

Furthermore, KMTC introduced a Diploma in Mortuary Science in 2023, extending opportunities to students who scored C- and above.
