Govt Worker Evicted From His County House

A family in Embu town is appealing for intervention from the housing authorities at the National government after they were kicked out of a government house in Embu County.

Alousio Kariuki, 50, said his wife has worked as a casual worker at the Embu Level 5 Teaching and Referral Hospital for the last 20 years and was allocated the house four years ago due to the condition of her mother who has been in ill health.

He said that their pleas to the officers managing the houses fell on deaf ears, adding that the reason they were given for their eviction is that they do not have a pay slip.

Kariuki’s wife, Joycelyn Kagendo, said the family’s household items were destroyed during the eviction and thrown out in the rain.

She said she does not have arrears on the Ksh. 1,000 per month rent.

CECM incharge of Lands at the County of Embu Raymond Kinyua condemned the evictions noting that their should be humanitarian considerations due to the ongoing rains.

He also called for collaboration between the National and County Government officials to sort some of the cross cutting issues affecting the residents.
