Court Approves The Removal of Female Judge

Supreme Court of Kenya has okayed the removal of judge who was suspended by ex President Uhuru Kenyatta over mental incapacity.

The Supreme Court seating today has approved the removal of Justice Mary Gitumbi over mental incapacity and has upheld the tribunal decision that Gitumbi cannot discharge functions of a judge.

Ex- President Uhuru Kenyatta had suspended the then Environment and Land Court judge Mary Muthoni Gitumbi following recommendation for her removal by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on grounds of mental incapacity.

A tribunal was then constituted to look into the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission by the then President.

The tribunal was chaired by Lady Justice Omondi Hellen Amolo.

Other members of the tribunal were Justice Luka Kiprotich Kimaru, Lady Justice Linnet Ndolo, Peter Munge Murage, Mary Martha Nyakado Bonyo, Dr. Frank Njenga, and Dr. Margaret Othieno Makonyengo.
