Number of Days Mathe Wa Ngara Will Spend in Jail

A businesswoman suspected of drug trafficking and in possession of “cookies and sweets” has been detained by police for five further days while inquiries are ongoing.

Earlier today, JKIA court Senior Principal Magistrate Njeri Thuku decided that the prosecution’s request to hold Nancy Endoveria Kigunzu for five days was justified.

“After carefully reading all sides’ arguments, I conclude that the prosecution’s request to hold the respondent in custody is justified. The magistrate ordered that the suspect be held at Muthaiga Police Station for five days so that police may finish their inquiries.”

In addition, the Court ordered that Endoveria be led to the hospital so she can get her medication after hearing from her attorney that she had been denied access to it.

On August 28th, the case will be brought up for further instructions. Known as “Mathe Wa Ngara” for her alleged drug sales, Endoveria was detained by police earlier this week at around 1530 in the CBD.

According to a request for detention made in court by Sergeant Stephen Chesire, Kigunzu evaded police capture throughout the operations which resulted in the arrest of three other individuals.

Chesire said that measurements and samples of the purported medicines were taken without her presence. The officer claims in the affidavit that the cookies and candies that were taken from the premises of the respondent couldn’t undergo a preliminary laboratory test and as a result, no report will give further directions on this case on the charges to be preferred.

Chesire also informed the court that he planned to question Kigunzu’s accomplices further, which could result in additional arrests. In order to allow the investigating officer to finish his inquiries, he added, “I request the respondent be held for five days.”

The suspect is a flight risk and if she is released before the inquiry is finished, there is a chance that she would obstruct the investigation and the gathering of evidence.

The Court was encouraged to consider granting the requested orders since it would be just and within its discretion.
