Court Orders Arrest of Police IG

The National Industrial Court has ordered the arrest of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba for contempt of court.

Also to be arrested is the Force Secretary, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Hafiz Inuwa.

The order was given following the disobedience of the IGP and the Force Secretary, to the court’s order directing the reinstatement of some police officers who are graduates of Courses 33, 34, and 35 of the police academy, who were alleged to have been forcefully retired by the force.

Recall that the affected officers resorted to court seeking an order to nullify their compulsory retirement from the service by the IGP Usman Alkali Baba.

Nigeria: Justice Oyebiola Oyewumi, ordered the IGP, the Police Service Commission, and the Force Secretary of the Police to reinstate the forcefully retired officers.

The judgement delivered on April 19, 2022 was not obeyed by the Nigeria Police Force.

The court has however, adjourned the case till October 9, 2023.
