GOVT ANNOUNCES NEW EXAM FOR C+ STUDENTS BEFORE JOINING CAMPUS

The government, under the Ministry of Education, in coordination with Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), has made a new proposal intending to vet all the students who qualified for university studies in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary School Education (KCSE) examination.

During the official release of the examination results in January this year, the Education Cabinet Secretary, Hon Ezekiel Machogu, confirmed that 173,345 students managed to meet the standard requirement of enrolling in Kenyan university institutions.

According to a new report from the KUCCPS special audit committee, all the students who managed to score a university minimum qualification of at least a C+ (plus) will have to be reassessed and completely vetted before getting a full government sponsorship for the courses.

The Saturday Standard Newspaper entails that the over 170,000 students intending to join the apex institutions have caused a serious placement and funding nightmare for the Ministry of Education.

“Tens of thousands of top 2023 KCSE students with C plus and above mean grades may miss out on state funding as a shock proposal that will see the current automatic allocation for university entry cut-off replaced with a stringent new assessment and complete vetting as higher education stakeholders talks conclude,” the Saturday Standard Newspaper quotes.
