RAILA ODINGA AND MARTHA KARUA 2022 COALITION

Kabando wa Kabando, former Mukurweini Member of Parliament, has hinted at a possible political pact between Raila Odinga of the ODM Party and Martha Karua of NARC-Kenya.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Tuesday night, the former legislator said Karua is being considered  as a suitable running-mate for the former prime minister in his 2022 presidential bid.

“The first name I have heard very widely of a possible Raila running mate is Martha Karua. The people who are talking about Kaura, and it is across the ethnic divide, are looking for an individual who can be deputy president with potential to execute a reformist agenda,” said Kabando.

He further divulged that discussions within ODM to bring her on board are underway.

“Her name is going around very much and I know it is a serious discussion among many players,” he added.

Kabando also stated that Karua is also being considered by the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) camp as a possible running mate to Musalia Mudavadi.

“There are also whispers that a Musalia Mudavadi candidature is still on the table with again a possibility of Martha Karua being his running mate,” he noted, describing Musalia as a very calculated individual.

Karua has only expressed interest in the Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat so far, but she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of changing her mind if she is approached by someone she thinks would make an excellent running mate.

“A Deputy President’s position is not something you contest, you just hang around and be nice to others, waiting to be called. If you want service, stand on your own,” she told Radio Citizen last week.

Meanwhile, neither Raila nor the OKA campaign have stated their intentions for the presidential election in 2022.

Mudavadi said last week that OKA will name its presidential candidate early next year, pushing back the deadline from the December 31 deadline set by the alliance’s co-principals.
