FORMER PRESIDENT MWAI KIBAKI’S FAMILY NEEDS FINANCIAL HELP

Mwai Kibaki Relatives: Former President Mwai Kibaki is mourning. The former president has lost his sister-in-law Jane Wanjiru Rika who was popularly known as Nee Kagai.

The late Wanjiru died on Saturday May 15. She was the wife to the late Captain Josephat Rika and the sister to the late Lucy Kibaki. Her death was announced publicly through an obituary that was advertised in a local daily.

“In deep sorrow, but with acceptance of God’s sovereign will, we announce the peaceful transition of our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Jane Wanjiru Rika (Nee Kagai) on 15th May 2021,” the obituary read in part.

Astonishingly, the the family asked for financial assistance to accord her a befitting send-off. They also provided an M-Pesa pay-bill number where well-wishers were asked to send their contributions.

“Well-wishers may deposit contributions via M-Pesa pay-bill number 8022025-the late Mama Wanjiru Kagai sendoff- account number, your name,” the obituary read. This caught many people by surprise given the prominence and wealth of the former president Mwai Kibaki.

It was not immediately clear why the former president’s family would go public begging for help. Neither was it established if they had sought financial assistance from the Kibaki family in vain.

The late Wanjiru’s body will leave Outspan Hospital- Nyeri Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 25, for interment at her home in Naromoru. Mwai Kibaki Relatives.
