NJURI NCHEKE’S LATEST STATEMENT CONCERNING MOUNT KENYA

Cases of men being beaten by their wives in Kirinyaga County have now forced the Njuri Ncheke and Kikuyu council of elders to seek a solution.

The elders met on Saturday to address the situation they claimed has led to children assaulting their fathers within homesteads.

Njuri Ncheke secretary General operations Josphat Murangiri said it is a curse for women and children to assault men who are the head of families.

He advised men to play their roles within by reducing consumption of alcohol and abdicating their family duties.

Murangiri noted that culturally men are never assaulted, adding that men who commit incest should be dealt with severely.

“If a man sleeps or has sex with his daughters, he should be put to death as per the traditions and cultures,” he added.

Kikuyu council of elders’ chair David Githaka said that they will be meeting the Kirinyaga men alleged to have been assaulted by their wives for a solution.

He also said that top on their agenda is sensitisation and education on drug substance use and the side effects it has on families.

The sensitisation will be done in collaboration with the police officers so as to assist men suffering in silence, to come out and report the crimes committed by their wives.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said that there is a need for all cultural groups to work together to enhance traditions.

“Kikuyu council of elders will be inviting other cultural groups in Mt Kenya East for a way forward on how families will be run to avert the gender violence being witnessed in Kirinyaga” said Waiguru.
