MEET KENYAN’S NEXT CHIEF JUSTICE AFTER MARAGA

Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga on Monday officially handed over instruments of power to his deputy, Philomena Mwilu.

Maraga handed the the instruments at the Supreme Court building which marked the end of his 4-year stint as the Chief Justice.

While speaking during the handing over ceremony Maraga said that Ji Kenya should invest in the judiciary.

Maraga reminded the judges it was their duty to be the custodians of the Constitutions, and they should never waiver further urging them to do the right thing to the people of Kenya.

“As I have already said the Judiciary and our judges are the custodian of the Constitution and we cannot tire to continue reminding ourselves of that responsibility. It is now my pleasure to hand over the Constitution to my deputy,” the CJ said.

The outgoing Chief Justice handed over to the DCJ the institutional flag which signifies the transfer of authority to the acting Chief Justice.

Maraga also handed over the Judiciary report which was to guide Mwilu on the current status of the Judiciary.

In the event Maraga was told to describe his official retirement from the job which he has held since June 2016.

CJ Maraga also handed over his official car and all his components which includes number plates and national flags that flatters his cars.

His retirement marked the third transition since the 2010 Constitution

First was the late Justice Evans Gicheru followed by Willy Mutunga.

After the retirement events Maraga was escorted by his private car in the company of his wife showing that he has begun his civilian life.
