DISTURBING DETAILS EMERGE OF STUDENT WHO KILLED HIS FAMILY.

More details on the coldblooded murder of four family members and their worker at Karura area in Kiambaa Constituency, Kiambu county.

The prime suspect Lawrence Warunge, 22, who on Sunday, January 10 confessed to killing his father, mother, brother, cousin and a farmhand employed by his family, says he was inspired by the hit TV series ‘Killing Eve’.

The IT student at a city university gave a spine-chilling and detailed account how Villanelle, a fictional character in “Killing Eve’, inspired him to committing the heinous crime.

Warunge told detectives that he researched online on the best way to execute the killing and stumbled on the British drama, in which a character known as Eve is tasked with hunting down a heartless psychopathic assassin.

He said he mostly got inspired in the Season 3 of the drama series where the psychopathic assassin kills her emotionally abusive mother and then proceeds to burn down their house with her mother’s husband and two other family members inside, killing them as well.

While character in the movie spared her two brothers, Warunge said he had intentions of wiping out his entire family.

He told detectives that he had initially planned to kill everyone including his two surviving sisters who, fortunately, had returned to school when Warunge murdered his father, mother, brother, cousin, and a handyman in cold blood on Tuesday, January 5.

He told police that it was after watching the tv series that he settled on a metal rod and a 9-inch dagger as his murder weapons.

“He first hit them on the head using a metal bar and immediately on becoming unconscious, he could stab the chest several times on each of the victims in order to damage respiratory organs,” said a detective privy to Warunge’s statement.

A police report shows that Warunge allegedly first pounced on and killed 40-year-old James Kinyanjui, the family’s farmhand who lived a few meters from the main house.

“He said that he then opened their gate, went and killed the mother and two children,” said a detective who sought anonymity.

After killing his mother Anne Wanjiku in the kitchen, Warunge attacked his 12-year-old brother who was responding to his mother’s cries.

The suspect then pounced on his father, Nicholas Warunge, who had tried to escape from him by jumping off the balcony.

The second-year IT student then killed his 13-year-old cousin Maxwell Njenga who was hiding under the bed.

Warunge told police that he stabbed the cousin multiple times despite the helpless child kneeling and pleading for mercy.
