FAMILY LIVES INSIDE A BAOBAB TREE

A mother of two has been forced to live inside a baobab tree after being abandoned by her husband.

In one photo of the several that have gone viral shows the woman stretching outside the carved baobab tree that she calls home in Voi county.

The entrance to their tree home is covered with a leso to shelter them from harsh and extreme weathers.

The less offers little or no protection against wild animals. It is a sad situation considering they live near a national park.

The family seems to be living in abject poverty. The only material possession in the vicinity seems to be a hoe and one chicken.

The two children have had to get used to the hard conditions since this is all their mother can offer. They seem to be in despair and lost in sorrow.

When darkness comes, they assemble inside a hollow of the tree and rest on logs softened by tattered and worn out pieces of thin mattresses.

The place looks deserted with no neighbor in sight making the family literally live in the jungle.

Kenyans have been troubled by the pictures and many have expressed interest in helping the needy family.
