NANDI COUNTY HEADQUARTERS SHUT DOWN

Corona cases are surging in the country at an alarming rate. Many people are attributing this to the relaxed preventive measures. Most schools have opened, bars and restaurants are also open. Although we still have curfew, its hours have been relaxed as the lockdown was lifted.

The county headquarters of Nandi has been shut down with all employees sent home. Severely affected departments include; Finance and Economic, Education, Public Health and Administration departments. The closure was necessitated by 8 members from the said departments contracting Corona Virus.

County Secretary Dr Sang in a memo said the employees were giving for a mandatory 14 days leave in an effort to combat the virus. Contact tracing has been started immediately to trace people who might have come into contact with the eight officers.

To access the offices members of the public will have to strictly adhere to the precentive measures set by the Ministry of Health and other relevant bodies.

“Consequently, the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor, Administration, Public Service and e-Government, Health Department Headquarters, Finance and Economic Planning Headquarters and Education Department Headquarters shall remain closed for fourteen days starting 19th October, 2020 to cut the chain of transmission for Covid-19,” reads part of the memo.

From 19th October to 21st October the county will take an intensive mass testing of its staff especially from the affected departments. This is an effort to combat the virus at its benign stage.

“Fumigation and other appropriate preventive measures shall be undertaken within all County affected offices,” he said.

There’s alarming increase of Corona cases in the Rift Valley region. The County Assembly of Uasin Gishu was closed for 21 days after tests done on the body of the late Huruma MCA Peter Kiiru Chomba returned positive for coronavirus.

In the last four days, Uasin Gishu County has recorded 30 cases (Thursday), 33 (Friday) and Saturday 74 cases, the highest ever figure.

The rise in the corona cases has seen Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago to plead with residents to adhere to the set covid-19 prevention guidelines

“We have lately seen laxity in adherence to COVID-19 regulations. I have walked around town, people are no longer keen on keeping social distance, hand washing neither do we put on masks well”, said Mandago.
