ODM leader Oburu Oginga has broken his silence after reports falsely claiming that he had died circulated while he was receiving treatment in hospital.

The Siaya senator says the reports did not discourage him but instead strengthened his determination to recover and return to his political responsibilities.

Oburu spoke on Wednesday, November 4, when National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi and other legislators visited him at his Nairobi residence following his hospital discharge.

During the meeting, the veteran politician assured his visitors and supporters that his condition was improving.

He also made it clear that his recent health challenges had only temporarily interrupted his political activities.

"Those who wrote me off while I was in hospital by declaring me dead only made me stronger and more determined to fight my sickness. Here I am, recovering and growing stronger by the day," Oburu said.

The senator further expressed confidence that he would soon resume his political engagements after spending time away from parliamentary activities.

He acknowledged that his illness had slowed down his work but maintained that he was eager to return to the political scene.

"The sickness slowed my political activities. Very soon, I will be back roaring in the best way I know how," he added.

Oburu also thanked the two parliamentary Speakers and the legislators who took time to visit him.

He said their presence had lifted his spirits and admitted that he missed participating in parliamentary debates and discussing national political issues.

The senator urged his supporters to continue praying for him and exercise patience as he concentrates on his recovery.

Wetang'ula and Kingi also expressed their support, saying Oburu's contribution to parliamentary debates and national politics was missed.

However, Wetang'ula cautioned the Siaya senator against returning to demanding political activities before fully recovering.

He advised Oburu to give his health priority rather than rushing back into public engagements.

Kingi similarly said the Senate missed the senator's contributions to proceedings, debates and national political discussions.

The visit brought together several legislators, including Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli, Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, Senators William Kisang and Daniel Maanzo.

National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Parliamentary Commissioner Mishi Mboko and MP Eve Obara were also among those who accompanied the Speakers.

Despite his recent absence from active political engagements, Oburu maintained an optimistic mood during the meeting and entertained his visitors with his trademark humour.

His remarks are likely to reassure supporters who have been concerned about his health and political future.

For now, the senator has expressed his intention to return to active politics, although he has not announced a specific date for resuming his parliamentary duties.
